Obama slams Michigan “Right to Work” (For Less) law in speech today

President Obama spoke up today against Michigan Governor Rick Snyder’s surprise rush move to push so-called “Right to Work” anti-worker legislation through the state legislature.

“What we shouldn’t be doing is trying to take away your rights to bargain for better wages and working conditions,” he said to loud cheers…. “We shouldn’t be doing that.”

“These so-called right-to-work laws, they don’t have to do with economics, they have everything to do with politics,” Obama said. “What they’re really talking about is giving you the right to work for less money.”

You can watch his speech in its entirety at CSPAN.

Hopefully Obama also delivered a similar message directly to Governor Rick Snyder when the two men met. Snyder was among those greeting Obama this afternoon when he stepped off Air Force One. Michigan’s legislature is expected to take a final vote on Snyder’s anti-worker legislation tomorrow Tuesday December 11th.

A contingent of Wisconsin union members and supporters are en route to Lansing, Michigan right now for what should be a very large protest of Snyder’s legislation tomorrow beginning at 8AM Eastern Time. See the facebook event Day of Action at Michigan State Capitol Building for more details.
