Setting Wisconsin schools up for failure: Proposed bill SB 286 got amended after hearing to favor charter schools even more

“Wisconsin’s lowest-performing public schools would be forced to close or reopen as charter schools and the state’s 2-year-old accountability report card would be revamped under a bill unveiled Monday.”

Head on over to Wisconsin Soapbox’s post entitled “SB 286 Amendment Details Released – Public Education Takes it up the Rear” to learn more about this and if you have the ability to show up at the Capitol on Thursday morning to glare at the people responsible for this, that would be good too.

  1. This is just ALEC-originated legislation under discussion in other states. Too bad charter schools don’t do very well in terms of test scores, college acceptances, etc. But that’s white noise. In Wisconsin we focus on what’s important and what’s not. And what we’ve decided is important as the average Wisconsin voter is to give tax payer dollars to charter school companies with their highly paid administrators, private equity shareholders, and thankfully low-paid, non-union teachers. What emphatically does not matter to us is preparing our kids to compete in the world economy. This is why we’re great and Governor is going to be President. On Wisconsin.
